Qualified intermediate care nurses are in greater demand than ever before. The increased acuity of inpatients has made these units vital to our ever-expansive network. Intermediate care units, and the nursing staff within them, provide much-needed care to patients who are a step down from critical care units.
Intermediate care nurses have many opportunities to utilize their advanced skills. The ability to manage the care of this patient population requires excellent critical thinking and decision-making, as well as strong organization skills. Additionally, intermediate care nurses are strong collaborators, who work effectively as members of multi-disciplinary teams. Physicians partner closely with them relying on their expertise and knowledge of the patient.
The intermediate care units at the HCA-Houston hospitals are continuing to grow with the increasing patient demand. Many of our hospitals have new units and beds added on a consistent basis.
